Bay Localize We catalyze the emergence of a regional, self-reliant economy that strengthens all Bay Area communities. Why local? Why now? Our growing dependence on declining fossil fuels coupled with mounting climate instability are converging to a crisis stage that imperils the long-term viability of the Bay Area's economy, infrastructure, and natural environment. In response, we believe that vibrant local economies and healthy communities are the answer. They are the best guard against global insecurity, an essential part of achieving social equity, and a vital way to enrich our day-to-day lives.

Bioneers Founder Kenny Ausubel coined the word bioneers in 1990 to describe an emerging culture of social and scientific innovators who are mimicking nature¹s operating instructions to serve human ends while enriching the web of life. We take a "solve-the-whole-problem" approach: Taking care of nature means taking care of people - and taking care of people means taking care of nature. It's part of our mission.

Author, Lecturer, Engaged Citizen The term The Great Turning has come into widespread use to describe the awakening of a higher level of human consciousness and a human turn from an era of violence against people and nature to a new era of peace, justice and environmental restoration. Most people are not aware that this awakening is underway, because positive change rarely reaches the level of front page - or even back-page - news! YES! magazine is one of the few publications that is in the business of bringing these stories to public attention. The underlying idea of a epic human turning is discussed by a many writers who refer to it by a variety of names. The Institute for Noetic Sciences refers to it as The Shift, which is also the name of its monthly publication.

What's Your Tree Network originating with the work of Julia Butterfly Hill. What's Your Tree was developed during year-long inquiry sparked by a major motion picture based on the story of Julia Butterfly Hill. This film, LUNA, is in active development and has the potential to be a film that millions of people see all over the world. The possibility of the film had us ask: What is it that takes someone from inspiration into action over the long haul? When someone is inspired by a film, what would keep them involved and active in the world?
